07 Jun Volunteer on a Deserted Island
Do you have what it takes to volunteer for 6 months on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?
Each year the Department of Conservation selects 9 volunteers to assist with maintaining Raoul Island. Volunteers hop aboard a chartered boat and travel 690 miles north of New Zealand to this isolated, volcanic, and otherwise uninhabited island. Volunteers must be able to carry out a wide range of practical tasks from weed pulling to road maintenance, building repairs and baking bread.
Volunteers must have proven back country experience, a high level of fitness, comfortable in rugged terrain and have experience in an isolated situation.
