Hallstatt is a village on Lake Hallstatt’s western shore in Austria’s mountainous Salzkammergut region. Considered to be one of the oldest and still inhabited settlements in Europe, Hallstatt is a UNESCO heritage site and a stunning Austrian tourist attraction. With over 7,000 years of salt mining, Hallstatt is home to the world’s first salt mine and offers stunning tours of the salt caves. Other attractions include a funicular railway, hiking trails, glacial potholes, and the Waldbachstrub Waterfall.
